Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 13.
The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) is pleased to share that this year’s ‘Holiday Bucks’ promotion will begin on Tuesday, November 13th. Annually, the VCDC offers this gift to the community in order to encourage local spending for the holiday season.
Vermillion Bucks – the community’s local currency – is accepted at most Vermillion retailers and venues, and helps bolster the local economy by keeping consumer dollars circulating in the community.
While Vermillion Bucks can be purchased at face value any time of year, for the duration of the ‘Holiday Bucks’ promotion shoppers can obtain up to $300 in Vermillion Bucks at a 15% discount.
“Our ‘Holiday Bucks’ program supports our Chamber members, the local economy, and our community as a whole,” says Nate Welch, VCDC President & CEO. “A visit to your local family-owned shop or restaurant not only supports Vermillion’s economy, it promotes a more vibrant community. Vermillion Bucks also provide local shoppers with a lot of great options: use the discounted bucks to purchase gifts for the holidays, give the Vermillion Bucks as a gift, or reward yourself by keeping them and spending them in town throughout the year!”
Community members are invited to drop into the VCDC offices during business hours at McVicker Plaza, 2 E. Main Street in downtown Vermillion beginning Tuesday, November 13th. The discounted Holiday Bucks are sold in bundles of $100 and each family/household may purchase up to 3 bundles, or $300 in Vermillion Bucks. Each Vermillion Buck has a one-year expiration, and can be used at most Vermillion businesses just like a check. Vermillion Bucks cannot be deposited into personal checking or savings accounts, nor can they be cashed. A limited amount of Vermillion Bucks will be sold at the discounted rate, so the offer ends when they run out.
