Alumna Earns Harvard University Journalism Fellowship

Kaeti Hinck '07 has been named a 2019 Nieman Fellow by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University.

Hinck, who serves as an editor for The Washington Post, is one of only 27 journalists selected for the prestigious fellowship, which includes two semesters of study at Harvard University.

Hinck will join a cohort of other reporters, correspondents, editors, photographers, filmmakers, television news anchors, a radio producer and other journalists who specialize in data investigations, digital development, social media, virtual reality and new forms of storytelling to advance her study of the field.

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard educates leaders in journalism and elevates the standards of the profession through special programs that convene scholars and experts in all fields. The Foundation has educated more than 1,500 accomplished journalists from 97 countries since 1938. In addition to taking classes during their time at Harvard, fellows participate in Nieman seminars, workshops and master classes and conduct research with Harvard scholars and other leading thinkers in the Cambridge area.

Hinck's individual research will investigate how neuroscience and psychology can inform the digital news ecosystem and reshape approaches to product design, visual journalism and trust.

Hinck majored in journalism and religion at Augustana. She is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
